A Cincinnati nonprofit is working on a new project that will help share the history of beer in the United States.
The Brewery District Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation’s Brewing Heritage Trail announced Thursday that it is working on creating the American Museum of Brewing, which would be located in Over-the-Rhine. The permanent museum would share America’s innovative brewing history, and leaders say, “What better place to do so than Cincinnati?
“With our city’s rich and storied beer history—from the lager cellars beneath our streets to the grand brewery palaces that once defined our skyline—Cincinnati is a living testament to the brewing boomtown that helped shape American culture. This museum will honor that legacy, providing a world-class institution dedicated to the craft, the people, and the history that made it all possible,” the nonprofit shared on its website.
Lisa French, the Bockfest and Events Committee Chairperson with the Brewing Heritage Trail, says the project is still in its early days, but the nonprofit will be offering a preview of its vision at a special event Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 9-12, during the America’s River Roots festival. The pop-up exhibit, “Tapping into Tradition: How Immigrant Labor & Innovation Created a Brewing Boomtown,” is free, open to all ages and will be hosted in the historic lagering cellars at the Jackson Brewery in Over-the-Rhine.
The exhibit will also have a beer garden on site, where guests can sample two beers produced by the Carillon Brewing Company, who brew by hand with a wood-fired and gravity-fed system — 1850s style. There will also be favorite local craft beers and soft drinks available.
The exhibit is free, but you will need to reserve timed-entry tickets here.
