One popular Cincinnati art series has a new location for its fourth iteration.
Local cultural organization Paloozanoire, which focuses on elevating the lives of Black artists, corporate leaders and entrepreneurs, is debuting the next installment of its “Faces” series. Formerly known as the “Black & Brown Faces” series, “Faces: Don’t Get it Twisted –Untangling a Textured Legacy” will debut at the Contemporary Arts Center this Friday, where 16 different artists from across the globe will display new art about diverse experiences.
In this year’s “Faces,” the exhibition will focus on artists who use their work to shed light on storytelling traditions surrounding textured and ethnic hair across generations, and its enduring impact worldwide. It’s the first time the series will be displayed at the CAC—in years past, “Faces” has premiered at the Cincinnati Art Museum.
Despite the venue switch, the heart of the exhibition remains unchanged: centering the influence and cultural impact of diverse artists whose perspectives shape contemporary art and community narratives.
This year’s “Faces” highlights works by Stephanie Amon, Nate Austin, Jonae Boatwright, Marquest Cathcart, Blessing Chidera, Yann Couedor, Nyzere Dillon, Asia Estelle, Peyton Euria, Chibuike Ifedilichukwau, Kid Kardiac, Eddy Ochieng, Petie Parker, Reggie Singleton, STU, and Kyra Watkins.
“Faces: Don’t Get it Twisted –Untangling a Textured Legacy” premieres at the Contemporary Arts Center on Friday, Feb. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m.
