MadTree Brewing has appointed Rhiannon Hoeweler as its first CEO and Justin Wiener as its first COO, effective April 29.

Hoeweler, previously vice president of experience and impact, takes the helm after a two-year leadership transition that saw MadTree reach its most profitable year since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Wiener was previously vice president of revenue.

Co-founders Kenny McNutt and Brady Duncan will retain their titles as co-founders, but step back from day-to-day operations to focus on strategic vision, business development and expansion, including the planned opening of Alcove-Summit Park in summer 2026.

“The transition to a CEO is the culmination of a four-year strategic plan to professionalize MadTree,” Duncan said. “Rhi has grown the company’s community impact, culture and overall business. We could not be more excited for this next chapter.”

McNutt said the handoff has been years in the making.

“We started this thing in our garage and are so grateful to have an immense talent like Rhi to take us to the next level,” he said.

During the transition, Hoeweler also opened MadTree Parks & Rec and expanded distribution of Sway by MadTree.

“It’s the privilege of a lifetime,” Hoeweler said. “Our staff does an amazing job bringing Kenny and Brady’s vision to life every day.”

Hoeweler joined MadTree six years ago and previously served as vice president of visitor experience, strategy and fun at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Bart Watson, president and CEO of the Brewers Association, welcomed the news. “Craft beer’s next era of growth requires new leaders to continue cultivating and growing brands in their communities,” Watson said. “We’re excited to watch Rhiannon and her team do that.”
