One of Cincinnati's newest businesses differs quite drastically in its offerings from the handful of local dining and drinking destinations that opened during the pandemic. This particular operation provides sustenance and, potentially, comfort in a pretty unique way.

Hydration Station 513, located at 18 W. Ninth St., is "an IV (intravenous) Therapy Clinic that offers IVs and IM (intramuscular) shots for a wide variety of potential benefits," according to owner Chris Jaeger.

Those purported benefits range from hangover and migraine relief to boosting metabolism, energy and immunity. The treatments are also touted as being helpful for overall wellness and hydration, as well as anti-aging.

This IV-drip wellness trend has been popular across the country for the past couple of years, especially in cities like L.A., New York and Las Vegas, with lots of partying and late nights. And after Jaeger and his wife, Dr. Jess Garrett — a local anesthesiologist and the medical director at Hydration Station — moved back to Cincinnati, they saw a lack of offerings in the local IV therapy field and got to work.

Hydration Station 513 initially opened in the fall of 2019 as a concierge service. And despite the various challenges of the pandemic, they opened their storefront on Sept. 5, 2020.

"Opening a new business location in the midst of COVID seemed like an absolutely insane idea but we had enough support from our concierge clients and demand for more that we decided to open our brick-and-mortar location in downtown Cincinnati," says Jaeger.

Your first visit to Hydration Station will last about 45 minutes to an hour, and includes a free mini consultation and a general health screening. Appointments following your initial visit can be as short as 30 minutes. According to Jaeger, depending on the infusion, results can be noticed within the first hour and can last days to weeks.

Prices are based on which vitamins, minerals or supplements you select, but range from $20 for individual additives like vitamin C or vitamin B12 to $189 for packages like the Myers' Cocktail PLUS, which includes an IV with lactated ringers, B vitamins, vitamin C, calcium and the antioxidant glutathione.

IVs are administered by "sticks," a nickname for the Hydration Station's team of paramedics and nurses managed by Dr. Garrett.

The facility does take HSA and FSA, but currently does not offer payment through insurance.

Visitors ages 18 and up are welcome, and people ages 16 and 17 may visit with parental consent.
