Have you been considering adopting a new furry pal? With dog-friendly coffee shops, bakeries, bars and parks, Cincinnati is a great place to be a pet owner. While there are many good boys and girls looking for their forever home, there’s a lot to think about when making the decision to bring home a pet. If you’re serious about making this life step, adopting a pet is very rewarding for you and the pet that gets a new home.
We’ve compiled a list of available pets from a few local adoption programs to help you on your mission of finding the pet that’s right for you. This is just a small glimpse into each agency’s list of adoptable pets. If you are interested in seeing what else they have to offer, visit their websites to learn more. Also, keep in mind that each program has their own application process and some take longer than others.
If you’d like to help out the cause but aren’t able to adopt right now, you can always donate to one of these rescues or a number of other local pet adoption organizations.

Amber
Age: 9 Months / Breed: Beagle / Hound Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Lucky Tales Rescue, Inc
Hi dog-lovin friends, Im Amber! Speaking of lovin’, lemme tell ya, I’m all about it. Other dogs, humans, you name it, I love ’em! Im a nine month old possible beagle/coonhound mix who came into the rescue pregnant. On Labor Day (ha!! how ironic!), I gave birth to one healthy baby girl who has found her forever home already. While my foster parents say I was the best mom they could have asked for, Im ready to be done with motherhood and go back to puppyhood. Want to go on a walk or hike? Im amazing on a leash. Want to Netflix and chill? My favorite spot is cuddled up next to my human on the couch or bed. I’m house trained, I’m not a chewer, I realize what is and isnt a toy, and I’m used to being in my crate while my fosters are at work.Buuuuuuuut…. with all these amazing qualities come a couple things I could work on. Although I am getting better, I do have a habit of jumping up on my humans when excited and I do love to bark at all the things so, I’m not just a pretty face, Im a little vocal, too.
Photo: Lucky Tales Rescue, IncMemere
Age: Adult / Breed: Beagle / Sex: Male / Rescue: Stray Animal Adoption Program
Memere has been such a wonderful foster and will do good in a home with no stairs for him to have to maneuver. He is house-broken and has never been crated that I know of. He is a flight risk so he will need a secure fence. Memere is allowed to sleep with his foster so he will likely want that in his forever home as well. However, there are going to be medical needs for this guy. Memere was hit by a car and his injuries were extensive. Memere’s left front leg was shattered and both rear hips were fractured. He did have his left front leg amputated and has had surgery on the rear (right) leg twice. The Right leg will take a full 6 months, or more to heal from the surgical repairs and given the previous hip fractures there is also some decreased range of motion in the Left hip as well. Given the issues Memere has had he seems to be really getting around well at this time. He will likely need to be on some sort of anti-inflammatory long term and may even possibly require surgery on his left hip at some point down the road, but currently seems to be doing well. At this time he is currently taking Carprofen and Gabapentin twice daily.

Age: Adult / Breed: Rottweiler / Sex: Male / Rescue: Stray Animal Adoption Program
Doc is a handsome boy who loves to play. He is friendly with other dogs, cats unknown. He is crate trained and working hard on house training. With a routine I think he will catch on quickly. He loves his people and is quiet in his crate. He is learning he needs to keep his paws on the ground. He likes to grab your hand but does not bite down hard.

Age: 10 Months / Breed: Tabby / Sex: Male / Rescue: Lucky Tales Rescue, Inc
Hello! My name is Baby face. I am a gorgeous male Tabby who is looking for a new home! I am about 9-10 months old. I love my people and attention but I am not necessarily a lap cat. I am great with being picked up and I am very easy going. I am good with dogs and other cats.
Photo: Lucky Tales Rescue, IncClem
Age: 4 Months / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Male / Rescue: Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue
Meet, Clem! Clem is a four month old little boy who loves everyone he meets! Clem is fostered with dogs and kids and he gets along with both! Clem has typical kitten energy but will happily cuddle up on the couch to be near his foster family. Hes fully litter box trained and up to date on vaccines. If you are looking for a sweet little boy to add to your family before the holidays,
Photo: Louie’s Legacy Animal RescueElizabeth Bathory
Age: 6 Months / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue
Hi! My name is Elizabeth Bathory, and I’m about 6 months old. I came with my siblings into rescue, so I’m still a little shy around new people. Don’t let that fool you though; once I get comfortable, I like to chase my siblings around the room and play tag. Once I get used to the people in the house, I purr up a good storm! I would prefer to go to a house with a very social kitten or cat, so I have a buddy to explore with. I am fostered with other cats and dogs. I don’t mind the other cats, especially if they are friendly. I am getting used to the little dogs in the home, but still a little worried about the larger dogs
Photo: Louie’s Legacy Animal RescueTulle
Age: Adult / Breed: Domestic Long Hair / Sex: Female / Rescue: OAR
Tulle’s playfulness and sweet demeanor quickly charmed her foster mom, no to mention her adorable pink nose! She loves fabric wand toys, which she proudly drags around like a trophy once she ‘catches’ them. Tulle also LOVES crinkly packing paper! She will slide across it, hide underneath it, and play all day. Who needs an expensive toy when there are boxes and packing paper to play with? And this kitty has great paw-eye coordination. She’ll even catch toys tossed to her! Tulle isn’t a lap cat per se, but will lay next to you and enjoy pets or a relaxing grooming session. (Her secret favorite scratch spot is right between her shoulder blades.) To earn extra brownie points with Tulle, offer her some broth or gravy wet food. It is her absolute favorite, especially in turkey and chicken flavors.
Photo: OARLinus
Age: 1 Year / Breed: Basset Hound / Sex: Male / Rescue: Stray Animal Adoption Program
Linus is definitely a young guy and still has some mouthy tendencies but redirects with a toy. He is Fantastic with all people and dogs! Was interested in cat, but only to play.
He prefers to be near his humans, but is crate trained. He will let you know when he needs to go out, but likes to hide to poop. Would crate or gate when leaving alone. Linus is very food motivated (he would eat all day if you let him), so training will be easy and he absolutely loves toys, balls, and bones. Also he is great on a leash.
Linus is a super sweet, adorable, silly pup with lots of personality. He would make a great addition to any family
Photo: Stray Animal Adoption ProgramMario
Age: Puppy / Breed: Labrador Retriever / Great Dane / Sex: Male / Rescue: Stray Animal Adoption Program
He is the sweetest giant LOVEBUG who believes he’s a 10 pound lapdog! Mario lives with myself and teenage children whom he does great with. We have had preschool/school age children over and find that he gets excited and jumps/runs to try and impress these new “little” people~so we’ve moved the intros to outside where he can be distracted by play. We have a resident cat who literally rules the roost and he is very curious about her but doesn’t get too close as she will hiss and swipe at him. Our resident dog is middle aged with moderate energy level and she’ll play for a bit but can’t keep up with his PUPPY ENERGY!!
Photo: Stray Animal Adoption ProgramSir Mix-a-Lot
Age: 4 Months / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Male / Rescue: Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue
Meet the one hit wonders! These kittens are the life of the party! Vanilla Ice is a male, domestic short hair. These babies are approximately 4 months old and litter box trained. They love to play among themselves and with their mom. These kittens are well socialized but can swat at hands and feet in an attempt to play. This play is all in fun but could scare small children. The wonders love a laser pointer and just about any other type of cat toy you can find! Even a shoe lace is exciting! The wonders have, in small increments, met dogs and was okay with them but these dogs didn’t give chase to them. They have not met cats or kittens outside of their family but love to play and snuggle with each other. The one hit wonders would love to make themselves a part of your family!
Photo: Louie’s Legacy Animal RescueAuli
Age: 1 Year / Breed: Mixed Breed / Sex: Female / Rescue: Sweet Dream House Rescue
Sweet, silly playful AULI is beautiful 1 year old 42 lb. mixed breed girl looking for a furever home. We love her wonky ears.
Auli is a medium energy lovebug who likes toys and going for walks. She’s housebroken, crate trained, well behaved for nail trims/baths/tooth brushing. She needs a furever home with a fenced yard. Auli is not well suited to apartment living. She’d be okay as an only dog as long as she has someone who will keep her active and shower her with affection.
Photo: Sweet Dream House RescueGirlie
Age: Puppy / Breed: Pointer Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Three Sisters Pet Rescue/ Ohio Hound Rescue
Girlie was in a hoarding situation, and had to fend for herself. She is such a sweet dog, but can be protective. She LOVES to cuddle on the couch, so would be the perfect companion for a single person or couple with no children or other pets.
Photo: Three Sisters Pet Rescue/ Ohio Hound RescueHortensia
Age: 7 Months / Breed: Domestic Long Hair / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue
Say hello to Hortensia! She was a part of the diamond litter, but somehow she is the last one left! Hortensia is 7 months old and is a very spunky girl! She loves attention and her purr will sound like a motor because it can be so loud! She will even nestle into your face and neck to get cuddles and has been known to give kisses as well. Though she loves attention, her favorite thing to do is play! She loves to run around and chase toys, play with other cats, or just explore her surroundings. Her favorite toys are ones that she can bat around with her paw or the wands that have something fun attached at the end. If you are looking for an affectionate and playful addition, Hortensia might just be the one for you!
Photo: Louie’s Legacy Animal RescueJackson Sr.
Age: Senior / Breed: Beagle / Sex: Male / Rescue: Stray Animal Adoption Program
Hey guys! Jackson Sr here. Just an old man beag doin the old man beag things! I take medication each day to treat cushings, have arthritis, and I find that in my old age I don’t care for being alone, and I just dont hear too good these days. I’d like to be with my people, and my dog friends, and dangit I like to sleep in bed with my human! I don’t think that’s too much to ask for. I just want a quiet homebody to spend my golden years. Could that be you?
Photo: Stray Animal Adoption ProgramFloyd
Age: 2 Years / Breed: Border Collie / Sex: Male / Rescue: Stray Animal Adoption Program
Floyd is going to require a very specific home. In the right environment he is a very easygoing dog. Floyd has some fears that are a bit more than the average. First up is sudden noises in strange places. Floyd had trouble in the shelter so boarding or doggie daycare are not going to be good options. Kids are noisy and fast moving and he wants to hide under the table. A confident dog friend or two in the home are fine. He goes on walks better with a friend. He trusts men more quickly but practically bursts with love for people once he feels safe. He doesn’t like to be pet too quickly or grabbed by strangers so an adult home that is quiet is ideal. The quiet part is so critical. He would not be happy living off of a highway or a strip mall. Floyd is a smart dog who wants to please so he is going to be very trainable. He loves positive reinforcement and needs only mild correcting or he loses confidence. Floyd needs an adjustment period as well.
Photo: Stray Animal Adoption ProgramMoxy
Age: Adult / Breed: Shepherd & Dachshund Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Save the Animal Foundation
More than just soft fluff and a pretty face, Moxy is in search of a family that sees her for the smart, sweet girl she is, as well as the happy, confident dog she is capable of becoming. Moxy has lost her home twice over so who can blame her for being a little insecure? Her first family moved to a place that didnt allow pets. After a short stay at STAF, she was adopted by a nice, loving lady who was very generous with sweet words and snuggles. But Mox, with her protective shepherd genes and doxie spunk, needs more. Without a strong, sure human to take the lead, Moxy became very protective of her owner both inside the house and out which made her family more and more anxious which only reinforced Moxys tendencies. A series of unfortunate events added to her inner turmoil: the death of her dog companion, the move to a new house with a smaller, unfenced yard, and the introduction of an invisible fence. (Not the right option for this already stressed dog.)
Photo: Save the Animal FoundationKarley
Age: Young / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Female / Rescue: Purrfect Friends
Meet Karley! She was rescued from a large apartment complex – she was hanging around living under cars and following people around for two weeks. The leasing office was going to call someone to get rid of her so we decided to rescue her. She was likely born spring of 2019. Karley is a very special girl that needs that very special companion to adopt her. She really does not care for other animals, but she has a very unique personality that will steal your heart! She is loving and very vocal. She loves attention and likes to look out the window on her cat tree. Karley loves her special treats too.
Photo: Purrfect FriendsLilli
Age: 8 Years / Breed: Beagle / Sex: Female / Rescue: Stray Animal Adoption Program
Ok SAAP nation I must stop hiding this sweet girl. Meet Lilli, she is an adorable sweet senior, 8 year old, beagle who has battled and come out the winner of heartworm treatment. She is still learning to be an inside dog, so house-training is a work in progress, but she is getting there. She is a very low-key sweetheart, on the submissive side and would probably be good with kids who know when she wants her own space. She will need a fenced in yard because she loves using that beagle nose to explore. You never hear a sound out of her until the other dogs in her foster home start barking and even then, she doesn’t bark much. She is available for adoption for adoption now and has no lasting ill effects from her heartworms. She doesn’t have any teeth and will need to be on a canned food diet.
Photo: Stray Animal Adoption ProgramDax
Age: Kitten / Breed: American Bobtail & Calico Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Purrfect Friends
She was born mid-August-ish to an all-black feral mom-cat who was able to find safety by breaking into someone’s mobile home thru a hole in the laundry room floor! Dax didn’t get a lot of handling early on because momcat was a fierce protector. Now that she’s at her foster home; she’s been learning to appreciate regular meals, toys to play with and loving hands to pet her. She’s come along really well; sometimes gets a little scared & panics; but recovers well.
She may need a little patience and extra care to get comfortable in a new home – she LOVEs chicken, so a chicken bribe will make her your best friend really quickly!!
Photo: Purrfect FriendsAmelia
Age: Senior / Breed: Boxer / Sex: Female / Rescue: Stray Animal Adoption Program
Amelia loves to play or cuddle on the couch. She will follow your mood. Do you need a walking partner? Perfect, so does she! Do you love to play and run? Perfect, so does she! Amelia gets along great with the other dogs in her foster home, but cats are not her cup of tea! So if you have a playful, energetic dog that has been looking for a partner in crime, Amelia may be just that girl! Amelia is also one smart cookie! She already knows sit, down, and roll over, so training her will be a breeze! She is house trained and crate trained
Photo: Stray Animal Adoption ProgramRowdy
Age: Senior / Breed: Hound / Sex: Male / Rescue: Stray Animal Adoption Program
Rowdy is a handsome ole country boy looking for a home to call his own. Oh this boy loves his people. He did not know what to do with people at first but now knows that he likes to put his head in the crook of your neck or elbow. He leans into you….in other words, Rowdy has found he loves the company of people. He also loves a comfy spot to lay his head. Although good in a crate, he prefers a couch/chair or bed! He likes the luxuries now that he knows!
Photo: Stray Animal Adoption ProgramRuPaul
Age: Young / Breed: Tabby / Domestic Medium Hair Mix / Sex: Male / Rescue: Purrfect Friends
RuPaul is a gorgeous medium-haired tabby with bright white markings; (so pretty; everyone thought that he was a she – hence the name.) He’s very affectionate & interactive; playful and energetic. He’s the biggest and the fluffiest of 4 scared, sickly kitties that were found under a porch in N. Kentucky. They weren’t getting any care from the people who lived there, and they were hungry & sick – so they were taken in by Purrfect Friends for medical care for their upper respiratory and other various health issues, and for socializing; and to help them find wonderful new homes of their own. They’d love to be adopted with one of their siblings – RuPaul, Ryan, Randy and Rashelle.
Photo: Purrfect FriendsTatu
Age: 7 Months / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Male / Rescue: Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue
Tatu is a handsome buff and white 7-month-old Domestic Short Hair tabby kitten weighing in at about 6 pounds. He is the sweetest boy with a super loud purr that kicks in the moment he sees his human. Tatu got off to a rough start when at about eight weeks old his right rear leg was crushed and had to be amputated. Were not sure how it happened, but thanks to some good people and excellent veterinary care he has recovered nicely and is bounding around like a normal happy go lucky kitten. His tripod status never slows him down and his strength, balance and coordination are nearly back to normal.
Photo: Louie’s Legacy Animal RescueToffee
Age: 6 Years / Breed: Tabby / Tortoiseshell Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Purrfect Friends
Toffee is a “Torbie”, a tabby/tortoiseshell mixture. This tabby/tortoiseshell kitty is delicate & petite, rather shy & nervous; very quick to hide – but often playful (she likes to toss her toys in the air and chase them around), and talkative when she has something to say (in an adorable little chirp of a voice)! She also enjoys playing with younger, smaller kitties.Shes young; born December of 2014; and small in sizeonly about 6-7 lbs and not anticipated to grow any larger. She was brought in off the streets in the Walnut Hills area, a new mom with kittens
Photo: Purrfect FriendsWaltzer
Age: Adult / Breed: Domestic Medium Hair / Sex: Male / Rescue: OAR
Have you been looking for a lovable goof to light up your life? Waltzer is ready to go home with you! This fluffy guy has a very unique trait–besides being super cute, he has a signature head tilt that gives him a continuous quizzical look (which appears to be from a previous injury). Despite this, the head tilt doesn’t stop him from the usual cat business of playing, cuddling, and being a hound for food (especially wet)! Waltzer got along with other cats in his foster home but likes to be the star at OAR, so he might do well either on his own or with slow introductions in his forever home. He’s chatty and a bit clumsy with his wand toy skills, but we know Waltzer can’t wait to meet you!
