Wave Pool, a contemporary arts center dedicated to showing community change and needs through an artist’s visionary abilities, is welcoming Marcy Petit and her new exhibition, “Under the Owl’s Eye.”
Petit, a French interdisciplinary artist, is this year’s Sara Vance Waddell Artist in Residence and will be at Wave Pool Gallery in Camp Washington for five weeks to create her exhibition and performance exploring eco-feminist perspectives.
“Marcy Petit will evoke a generation of women who once held ancestral knowledge — connected to plants, rituals, the land — and who gradually lost this wisdom through time, societal shifts, and capitalist transformations,” Wave Pool said in a press release.
The San Francisco, California, resident studied fine art at the University of Rennes, where she created through many artistic mediums, such as photography, installation, sound and more. In post-graduate school at the University of Leeds and University Paris 8, she earned a master’s degree in contemporary art management.
The exhibition will open on May 10, with an opening celebration from 6-9 p.m. that is free to the public. Petit will also be doing public programming with the Contemporary Arts Center, Smale Park and Imago during her residence.
