We get it. Being a Cincinnati Bengals fan is tough, even when the home team gets new stripes and an actual throne. And now a new survey about the drinking habits of NFL fanbases seems to confirm it.
A recent survey from SportsHandle, an offshoot of gaming media group US Bets, shows that Bengals fans are No. 1 in the country for boozing it up on game day. We apparently suck down more hooch than any other team’s followers, consuming more than 5.2 drinks per game and spending $43.08 on alcohol.
All this drinking has a price, though, as Bengals fans are No. 3 for missing some or all of games because we’re too damn drunk. According to SportsHandle, 63% of us do that.
Our friends in Cleveland also are alcoholically inclined. According to the survey, fans of the Cleveland Browns come in at No. 8 on the booziest fanbase list, with $45.34 spent on 4.3 drinks per game.
San Francisco 49ers fans are the most sober, spending only $30.58 on 2.6 drinks per game.
For its data, SportsHandle surveyed fans of legal drinking age between June 21-30 this year. See the drinking habits of all NFL fanbases.
The Cincinnati Bengals begin pre-season action on Aug. 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the regular season kicks off Sept. 12 with the Minnesota Vikings visiting Paul Brown Stadium.
