Summertime is right around the corner and, for many, that means floating down the river and sippin’ on some ice cold beverages while the sun beams from above.
And while much of the population has wondered what kind of summer we could anticipate having amid the coronavirus pandemic, Harrison’s Green Acres Canoe Rental was quick to announce that they not only expect being open this season, they’re planning to open pretty soon — several days earlier than last year, in fact.
The kayaking hotspot is slated to open on May 1, weather permitting. But expect some big changes this year to comply with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 guidelines.
What’s new:
-All tickets must be purchased online and used day of purchase
-Visitors must be 18 years or older
-Only single tandem, sit-on-top kayaks are available for rental
-8-mile trips only
-No large dogs; coolers must fit in single kayak
On Green Acres Canoe Rental’s website, they outline the ways in which they’re keeping their customers and employees safe this season, including spacing out bus seats; adjusting the bus loading and exiting guidelines; sanitizing seats, kayaks, paddles, life jackets and facilities; taking employees temperatures; closing the food court and food truck; and practicing social distancing in all workplaces.
Purchase your tickets online starting at 7 a.m. daily and be prepared to show proof of purchase either by printed receipt or your phone with photo ID upon arrival. Guests can either print their waiver at home or fill it out at Green Acres using a new, sterilized pen they have available.
Tickets cost $24.75 per person; $29.75 on weekends. Shuttles run from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. on weekdays; 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
Guidelines may change, check website for updated info.
