Earlier in August, Kings Island announced that it was permanently shutting down its interactive dark ride, Boo Blasters on Boo Hill, to make way for future development. Now, the Greater Cincinnati amusement park is dropping hints at what may come next.
On social media Thursday, Kings Island dropped a teaser video featuring a security guard investigating an abandoned Boo Blasters ride as Johann Sebastian Bach’s eerie Toccata and Fugue in D minor plays.
“Hang on. I think I hear something,” the guard, Mike, says into his radio. He picks up the music sheet for Toccata and Fugue from a pipe organ and walks off-screen. The scene changes to another security employee standing in an ancient tomb-like space as he asks into his radio, “Mike, where are you?”, followed by a “To be continued” message. You can watch the full video here or below.
The cryptic video is a preview of an apparent announcement coming from Kings Island next week, but in the meantime, it has stirred up some interesting speculation in the Facebook comments, including the return of formerly popular rides:
“Tell me the phantom ride is backkkk,” said one user. Phantom Theater was one of the former iterations of Boo Blasters, which ran from 1991 to 2002.
“Wait I know that music!!!” another commented.
“Could foresee the return of Phantom Theater in a new reboot ride but more than likely will see Maestro coming back with new revenge.”
“Wait…..was that tomb raider at the end?!” someone else suggested. (Tomb Raider was a Kings Island ride that ran from 2002 to 2011.)
“Tomb Raider building gonna throw people for a loop,” another person commented.
So does the music choice hint at the return of the Phantom Theater? Or maybe the crypt in the final scene hints at something along the lines of Tomb Raider? Maybe Kings Island is planning a whole new concept or one that blends old favorites. We’ll know more on Aug. 28.
If you want to ride Boo Blasters on Boo Hill one more time, it will be open until Monday, Sept. 1.
