Nothing says winter or the holiday season in Cincinnati quite like ice skating downtown. The UC Health Ice Rink will open for the season Nov. 2 at Fountain Square, and this year, no reservations are required.
After being the only place in the Tri-State area to offer the chance to drive a bumper car on ice, organizers have decided to not bring them back this year. “Rather than purchasing a new fleet, the emphasis will shift to enhancing the skating experience,” 3CDC said in a press release. This emphasis on ice skating will include programs such as skating lessons, giveback skates, Downtown Dazzle, Duke Energy’s Light up the Square and more.
Open ice skating is $10, which includes admission and skate rentals. The rink says it will be accepting debit/credit card, mobile payments or cash this year.
The rink can stay running up until 60 degrees dry air temperature. In the case of warm weather or other conditions, you can call 513-297-6069 or check their Facebook page for updates.
You’ll also once again be able to warm up at the WGU Ohio Warming Tent or at the concession stand, where you can stop by for a quick snack or warm drink. The stand will also have beer, wine and select spirits for sale.
On the morning of Saturday, Nov. 9, Fountain Square will be unveiling its annual Christmas tree. Getting a photo in front of the 55-foot Norway Spruce at 5th and Vine Streets will be a must this holiday season.
“This tree is the centerpiece for many Cincinnati holiday traditions,” said Amy Spiller, president of Duke Energy OH/KY. “We are proud to support and to be a part of a lasting memory for Fountain Square visitors.” The tree will serve as the centerpiece of the festivities that take place during Duke Energy’s Light Up the Square event on Nov. 29, and then the Downtown Dazzle series which begins the following day.
The rink is open seven days a week until Feb. 17 and is also open on holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve. You can view daily hours here.
