A new mural will be popping up in downtown Cincinnati that will be one local company’s tribute to its roots, as well as to the cities it serves.

DMG, or Divisions Maintenance Group, which provides property maintenance services to commercial and residential properties, is partnering with ArtWorks Cincinnati to paint the 68-feet-by-18-feet mural on their new headquarters at The Foundry near Fountain Square. According to a press release, most of the painting will be done by three professional artists and eight apprentices, but DMG employees will also be rolling up their sleeves to help paint on certain days.

“Art is such a huge part of the downtown landscape, and murals in particular,” said DMG employee engagement manager Jalan Nored in the release. “We wanted to get involved in that right away, and this partnership with ArtWorks — particularly since it benefits youth apprentices — was the perfect fit.”

The new mural shows a man sitting on a truck in Northern Kentucky and looking out the Ohio River toward Cincinnati’s skyline. As a nod to DMG’s roots in Newport and Northern Kentucky, there are bourbon barrels in the truck etched with 1999, the year the company was founded. There is also a red-winged blackbird, native to both Ohio and Kentucky, as a symbol of DMG’s commitment to both sides of the river.

“We have a nearly 25-year history in Newport, Kentucky,” Nored said. “Our CEO, Gary Mitchell, is from Kentucky. We want the mural design to pay tribute to that rich history while also depicting moving ahead, moving forward.”
