Middletown Pride and the Sorg Opera House are teaming up this fall to present the Queer Movie Matinee, a series of LGBTQ+-themed movie showings at the historic opera house on South Main Street.

After the sixth-annual Middletown Pride Festival hosted over 3,000 attendees, the organization decided to host other LGBTQ+-centered events throughout the year, beginning with the movie screenings.

The first Queer Movie Matinee on Sept. 29 will screen the popular film, Love, Simon, the story of a closeted Atlanta-area high school student who is outed to his community when his messages to another gay student are released to the school, and tells his story of self-acceptance.

The event will kick off at 2 p.m. and will be hosted by Hamilton drag performer Roxie D. Mocracy. Concessions will be offered by the Sorg Opera House and Middletown Pride plans to offer merchandise, raffle baskets and a split-the-pot raffle for all attendees. Tickets can be purchased for $5 at the door.

Middletown Pride says other off-season events will be following the movie matinee series, though these events have not yet been finalized.
