If you’re looking to add a furry member to your family ahead of the holidays, several Greater Cincinnati animal shelters are offering a special adoption price for Black Friday.

SPCA Cincinnati, League for Animal Welfare and Ohio Alleycat Resource (OAR) are partnering with the Give Them Ten Movement, which will reduce adoption fees to just $9.99 if you adopt a shelter animal Friday-Saturday, Nov. 28-29. Give Them Ten says the event aims to help hundreds of shelter animals find their forever homes in time for the holidays.

“While shoppers are out hunting for deals on material goods, we’re offering something far more valuable: unconditional love and companionship,” Deborah Cribbs, founder and leader of Give Them Ten, said in a press release. “These animals don’t need a sale to be priceless, but this special pricing removes financial barriers and helps us clear our shelters before the coldest months of winter. Every animal deserves to spend the holidays in a warm, loving home rather than behind kennel doors. Treat yourself to a gift that loves you back this season.”

While the adoption special aims to spread holiday cheer, it’s also to help reduce the overcrowding in Ohio’s shelters, which usually see an influx of animals after the holidays.

All animals come fully vetted, including their spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchips and an initial health exam. Potential adopters are encouraged to get to the shelters early, as animals are adopted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Give Them Ten also wants to remind potential adopters of the long-term commitment of pet ownership before they bring a furry friend home, including the ongoing costs of food, veterinary care, training and supplies. Shelter staff can help match your family to a dog or cat who best suits your lifestyle, living situation and experience level.

The $9.99 adoption special runs Nov. 28 from noon to 9 p.m. and Nov. 29 from noon to 4 p.m. at these locations:

Two shelters in the Dayton area — Humane Society of Greater Dayton (1661 Nicholas Road, Dayton) and SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center (8172 Washington Church Road, Washington Township) — are also taking part in the promotion.
