After starting off the season as one of the hottest teams in baseball at 8-3, the Cincinnati Reds have lost four of their last five games to drop to fifth in the National League. The Los Angeles Angels walloped the Reds at home this past weekend, scoring 22 runs at Great American Ball Park across three games.

Chase Burns gave up an uncharacteristic five runs in his start on Friday, but it didn’t end up mattering all that much after star outfielder Jorge Soler hit a grand slam off of reliever Sam Moll to ice the game at 10-2. The Reds briefly showed signs of life on Saturday with a 7-3 victory, but starting pitcher Andrew Abbott’s early season struggles continued as he gave up eight hits and two walks on Sunday in just three innings—his worst career start ever.

That same day, Angels pitcher José Soriano became the first pitcher this season to notch four wins thanks to his 10 K’s in seven shutout innings. Cincinnati made a comeback attempt, but Abbott’s poor performance was ultimately too much to overcome as the Angels took the game and the series with a final score of 9-6.

Up next for the Cincinnati Reds is another home series, this time against the San Francisco Giants from Tuesday through Thursday. Tickets are available now on the Reds’ official website.
