Starting Jan. 15, downtown’s Taft Museum of Art will reopen to the public with reduced hours — and continued COVID precautions.

Both the Taft and the Contemporary Arts Center decided to close their doors on Dec. 12 to adhere to Gov. Mike DeWine’s COVID safety advice.

In December, the museum wrote on Facebook: “As Ohio continues to reach an exceedingly high number of COVID-19 cases, DeWine has requested that individuals stay home unless necessary to leave. We know our institutions are among the safest places in the Cincinnati region, and we are voluntarily and temporarily closing our doors to the public in the interest of broader community health outside our walls.”

(The state’s nightly 10 p.m.-5 a.m. curfew is still in effect through Jan. 23.)

But starting this week, visitors can return to the Taft with limited capacity and timed entry. Hours are noon-4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.nm.-4 p.m. Sundays with hours set aside from 11 a.m.-noon Fridays and Saturdays for vulnerable populations.

Advanced timed tickets are required and can be purchased at taftmuseum.org/tickets. Visitors are also required to wear masks and have their temperatures checked upon entry.

Current exhibits include A Splendid Century | Cincinnati Art: 1820–1920 (through Jan. 24), which celebrates the Taft’s bicentennial, and Built to Last | Taft Historic House at 200, another bicentennial show which explores the home’s history (extended through June 6).

The highly anticipated Walk This Way | The Stuart Weitzman Collection of Historic Shoes opens Feb. 27.
