One of Cincinnati’s 52 neighborhoods is celebrating their local area in a major way.

This Saturday, the Oakley Community Council will celebrate all things Oakley as part of their “Celebration of Community Day.” The event is intended to highlight the importance of citizens getting involved in their own neighborhoods.

The special day will begin with a morning cleanup from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Eastside Recreation Center, focusing on beautifying several key spaces, including Oakley Park, the Oakley Playground and Pool, Hyde Park Plaza and the portion of Wasson Way adjacent to Oakley.

In the evening, citizens can head to Geier Esplanade in Oakley Square for a summer kickoff celebration from 5-9 p.m. featuring live entertainment, family-friendly activities and refreshments.

Attendees can enjoy live music from two local Oakley musicians, Monte Lykins and Joey Meyer & Jamwave, alongside refreshments from MadTree Brewing. Families can also enjoy entertainment from Cincinnati Circus, including face painters and a balloon animal artist. Guests are also encouraged to head to their favorite Oakley restaurant for carry-out and set up a picnic in the green space on the square.

As a thank-you for volunteering, cleanup participants will receive a drink ticket to be used at the block party.

“Celebration of Community Day is all about bringing neighbors together, celebrating the start of summer and showing pride in the Oakley community,” said Joe Groh, Vice President of Oakley Community Council in a statement. “From giving back during the cleanup to enjoying live music and activities together that evening, we’re excited to create a fun and welcoming event for everyone.”
