This Contemporary Home on Cincinnati’s West Side Has Us California Dreamin’

Perched on a vista overlooking the Ohio River on Cincinnati’s West Side, 7386 Southpointe Drive has dazzled since it was first built in the ‘90s, and after a few years and updates, it’s back on the market with a new look.

“It’s kind of a rare find,” owner Jon Holland told CityBeat on what drew him and his wife, Angie, to the home. “To find a home that was in top-notch condition, that’s been well maintained; it was a rare find for someone, and with all of that being said … what really drew us to this home was the potential to recreate our California style in the Midwest.”

Updates included modernizing the bathrooms and its fixtures, replacing the pink marble tile and opening the living area up to the sunroom.

The crown jewels of the home are the incredible spiral staircase at the entrance and the foyer with its greenhouse-esque skylights that allow light to just pour in throughout the grand home.

“One of the most unique features of this house is the floating staircase leading up to the massive skylights. Every engineer, architect and builder who has ever seen it agree that it’s an amazing architectural design. Then, of course, you got the openness of the outside, the birds flying above us … it really lets us enjoy nature from the comfort and secluded privacy inside the home,” said Holland.

Honorable mentions, however, go to the gourmet kitchen and the cozy sunroom with their views of the wooded backyard that’s more park-like than residential with sweeping views of the river. Holland says his favorite spot in the house is tough to pick, but the honor would probably have to go to the en suite in the sunroom.

“We have so many places to enjoy the home, including our primary bedroom on the top floor with a spa-like feel. I think my favorite really is, the most recent [renovation], which was the en suite in the sunroom,” said Holland. “We only used the sunroom a little bit because of the way everything was set up … it just felt like it was separate from the house. By opening that all up, I think that’s been my new favorite … during spring and summer with very large windows all around that open to allow the breeze and sounds of birds flow through, followed in the fall with the fiery dazzling display of the maple leaves changing colors and then winter snow as far as you can see, this room provides year-round enjoyment for us and our guests.”

In all, 7386 Southpointe has five bedrooms and six bathrooms, with the option of a primary suite on the main floor, which Holland uses as a guest suite, or one on the third floor, which offers a gas fireplace, a rooftop terrace and a luxurious bathroom. The home also has a spacious, heated four-car garage, as well as a four-stop elevator that allows easy access to every floor and an unfinished basement that’s ready for the new owners’ personal touch.

Outside, Holland installed an outdoor island grill and synthetic grass for the kids and adults to practice their putting. He also created an enclosed space for his family’s raised organic garden along with a dog walk to create easy access for his puppy, Sprocket, to go outside. He says the backyard also plays host to a number of wildlife guests like deer, turkeys and rabbits. You also can’t beat that view, especially as the sun sets while drinking a cold beverage and grilling something from your own garden.
