The Queen City is again in the spotlight of travel magazine Travel + Leisure, this time with an in-depth guide to some of Cincinnati’s best bakeries, eateries and drinking destinations.
The magazine published “Your Guide to the Buzzy Homegrown Restaurants, Bars, and Bakeries of Cincinnati” on Jan. 11, touting Cincy as having the potential to be “the Midwest’s next big thing.”
The feature gives a brief look into our city’s history, describing our immigration boom in the 19th century — and then our population decline in the mid-20th century like many other Rust Belt cities.
It then goes on to highlight our current comeback, specifically in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood.
“Cincy is poised to have a major moment, and nowhere is this more apparent than in Over-the-Rhine, a vibrant, culturally rich district that’s home to Findlay Market: the 165-year-old focal point of the city’s growing food scene,” says Travel + Leisure, stating that our community is growing both larger — and younger — and taking on historic ‘hoods to manifest fresh ideas.
The article gives shoutouts for more than a dozen Cincinnati-based businesses; including local bakeries Allez and Brown Bear Bakery; Deeper Roots Coffee; Rhinegeist Brewery; Salazar; 21c Museum Hotel’s in-house restaurant Metropole; Hotel Covington‘s in-house eatery Coppin’s; and Kinley Hotel’s Khora, Please and Goose & Elder (all of which received recognition in the magazine’s recent list of 50 best places to travel in 2021).
To us locals, it’s no surprise that these gems are receiving some well-deserved praise for their culinary and hospitality greatness, but that doesn’t make their national recognition any less sweet.
