Pickleball Officially Is A Thing Pickleball has been around since 1965, but it’s the fastest-growing sport in 2022, according to a report from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association. It’s a good time for Cincinnati to expand its footprint in the sport, then, as officials announced this year that the country’s second-biggest indoor pickleball facility will open in West Chester in 2023. The Pickle Lodge will feature 17 indoor courts, cushioned playing surfaces, a bar and restaurant and, eventually, five outdoor courts plus a championship court with grandstand-style seating. West Chester will soon be home to the country’s second-biggest indoor pickleball facility. The Pickle Lodge will feature 17 indoor courts, cushioned playing surfaces, a bar and restaurant and, eventually, five outdoor courts. It will also have a group event space.

The new facility will be located in the former Court Yard Sportsplex building on Kingsgate Way.

With this many courts, the Pickle Lodge plans to host national tournaments as well as lessons, open play and large events, a release says. President and co-founder of the Cincinnati Pickleball Club Mitch Dunn says everything the facility is doing will keep players’ needs at top of mind.

“The programming and scale of The Pickle Lodge are what will make it stand out,” Dunn says in a press release.

“The Lodge has been designed to satisfy everybody from the high-level player to the company event planner to those just learning the game,” Joe Frank, the facility’s co-owner, says in the same release.

The Pickle Lodge will open in phases starting in early 2023. The facility says later stages include a championship court with grandstand-style seating and a mezzanine overlooking the courts. The bar, restaurant and outdoor courts will be part of the later phases as well.

The Pickle Lodge will be open to the public as well as offer memberships. Learn more about the facility here.
