When he opened Nicolet Law, Wisconsin personal injury lawyer Russell Nicolet had a vision: to help others in difficult situations. As an attorney, he strives to integrate this philosophy into his practice–not only to serve his clients better but also to help them get through some of the most stressful situations they may face in life.

A Founding Vision

As a first-generation lawyer, Nicolet was the first person in his family to graduate from law school. He also started his law firm, Nicolet Law, as a one-person law office, all intending to help.

However, even with his ambitions to start his law firm, Nicolet says that he wasn’t sure what to expect when he ventured into the field of law.

“I didn’t really know how to make it all work,” he says. “I just went for it, and then did the same when I started my own law office.”

Overcoming Obstacles

Overcoming the obstacles of being a first-generation lawyer was difficult. To do this, Nicolet strived to work to become more knowledgeable continuously. He sought out mentors in the legal profession early on in his career. He spent many hours conducting research at Washington County Law Library to ensure that he effectively handled client cases as a brand-new attorney.

“As a young attorney, I tried to soak up as much as I could from all the attorneys I came across, and learn from really good attorneys that I had the pleasure of meeting sometimes they were even opposing me,” Nicolet says.

A Unique Approach and Perspective

This unique approach to obtaining knowledge from his peers, even those who work against him, allowed Nicolet to expand his wealth of experience in general litigation early on in his career.

“I ran into many attorneys in different practice areas,” Nicolet shares, “but as I became focused in injury work, the group of attorneys that I could learn from got much smaller.”

To counter this, Nicolet chose to expand his horizons beyond Wisconsin and Minnesota and started learning and training with some of the best injury attorneys in the world. He went to other states to listen to them speak, watch them work, and train with them.

Accolades and Accomplishments

Nicolet has received numerous awards for his work in personal injury, such as the National Trial Lawyers Association’s Top 40 Under 40 Trial Lawyers and Top 100 Trial Lawyers. He has also been recognized as a SuperLawyer by SuperLawyers Magazine.

Even with these accomplishments under his belt, Nicolet says that his most notable highlights have been his results for the great people he has had the honor to represent.

Future Aspirations for Nicolet Law

In the future, Russell Nicolet wants to continue to represent the injured in the Midwest and hold insurance and large companies accountable for those injuries. His primary goal from the start has been to help others. Through his work as a personal injury attorney at Nicolet Law, he strives to do just that.
