Walk-up windows seem to be the hot, new option for dining on the go in Cincinnati. A handful have opened throughout the year, including Boom Box Buns’ Chinese steamed bun window, 13th Street Alley’s Philly cheesesteak window and Crown Republic Gastropub’s pastry and coffee window.
The trend has brought a uniquely new dining option to the Queen City’s pool of tasty to-go spots. Babushka Pierogies opened up their OTR late-night weekend pierogi window on Dec. 7, offering five different options including traditional cheddar and potato pierogies (with or without bacon), 4-way pierogies with lentil Cincinnati-style chili, and two options for deep-fried pizzarogies including a vegetarian one. The pierogies are four for $7. In addition to pierogies, the window also offers a few beverages to wash it all down, like Russian Caravan hot tea ($3) and bottled water ($1).
Though the window is new, Babushka Pierogies has been around since 2012. Their flagship store is located in OTR’s Findlay Market where they sell other Eastern European dishes including kielbasa, borscht and stuffed cabbage rolls.
In addition to their brick-and-mortar locations, you can find Babushka Pierogies at a handful of local restaurants and bars including OTR’s Longfellow, Covington’s Wunderbar, downtown’s Bauer Farm Kitchen, Union’s The Farmstand Market & Cafe, as well as plenty of groceries across the Tri-State.
