Celebrate the fall harvest of black walnuts with the Farbach-Warner Nature Preserve during their Black Walnut Weekend.
From noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 12, the park will host games, crafts, nature hikes, live music from Jake Speed & the Freddies (12:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday), an opportunity to dye your own garments with natural black walnut dye and a plethora of black walnut-themed eats.
The oily and meaty nut is popularly used in sweets like cookies and cakes. And at 1 and 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, Cheri Brinkman, author of Cincinnati & Soup, Cincinnati & Soup: A Second Helping and Festival & Frolics will give a live cooking demonstration using black walnuts.
