A Pennsylvania-based brew pub that opened a franchise in downtown Cincinnati less than two years ago is now closed.
Voodoo Brewery was founded in Meadsville, Pennsylvania, in 2005 and now owns six locations in the state, as well as one in Las Vegas, and has over 20 franchise locations across 13 states, including another one locally in West Chester. In July 2023, Cincinnati Voodoo Brew Pub owner Chris Sands brought the brewery’s eclectic vibes and signature craft beer and food to the Queen City, opening at 120 E. Eighth St. On Tuesday, the brew pub posted a sign outside announcing the closure.
“Thank you Cincinnati. As the owner of Voodoo Cincinnati, we really tried to make it work. Unfortunately the mojo was not on our side as we came close to rounding out two years in business,” the sign reads.
Sands says downtown Cincinnati’s business dynamics and lower foot traffic in Quarter 4 of last year and Quarter 1 of the year dug Voodoo into a hole they couldn’t get out of.
“Our staff is wonderful and my goal has always been to take care of them as they are hardworking and dedicated. If you see them around town, please be sure to give them your thanks,” Sands wrote.
The West Chest Voodoo Brew Pub, owned by franchisee Sarah Lister, remains open at 9456 Water Front Drive.
