The past year has made nearly all of us into wannabe chefs between the bread baking and endless pastry phases of quarantine.
But if you want to get more skills under your belt beyond a good sourdough starter, you can check out Needs More Salt, a virtual cooking series from Metropole at 21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati.
Online classes will run for six weeks from Jan. 21 to Feb. 25, with a theme for each class.
The first class will be focused on “Building Blocks of Flavor,” with another class focused on “The Perfect Tomato Sauce” and one spotlighting a seasonal ingredient, mushrooms.
Vanessa Miller, the executive chef at Metropole, will be leading the classes, which are aimed at anyone who’s new to the kitchen or just looking to refine their skills. Before the class, participants will arrange to pick up a box of ingredients sourced from Miller’s favorite local farmers and producers.
Participants also may add a custom-paired wine to each class with the Winter Semester Wine Club (added in checkout). Each wine pairing was selected by Miller.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the LEE Initiative, a national restaurant workers relief program.
All six classes can be purchased in a bundle or individually. Each class is Thursday at 7 p.m., and the session will be recorded so participants can watch when it’s convenient for them.
