A Louisville-based bar, restaurant and music venue is now open in Covington.

In August, local real estate agency Comey & Shepherd Realtors announced it brokered a deal with Louisville bar Galaxie and financer Blue Bridge Holdings, LLC to redevelop the former ACME Lock building at 815 Madison Ave. This out-of-this-world bar and EDM venue announced Friday that it’s now ready for Earthlings to visit.

Galaxie’s owner, Thor Morgan, describes the concept as a modern take on the classic neighborhood bar. The bar sports an interstellar theme and is known for its “damn fine margaritas” and “wakatakas” (a cross between a taco and flatbread). It also hosts weekly DJ dance parties on Fridays and Saturdays, as well as live music performances.

“Covington has been on our radar for several years,” Morgan said in a press release. “We are so excited to expand our brand to the Cincinnati area. As our name suggests, Galaxie is unlike any neighborhood bar you’ve ever experienced. We invite guests to try our margaritas made with seasonal ingredients, pair them with a wakataka or nachos and come in for a show.”

“Galaxie in Louisville has been incredibly successful and is bringing their entertainment concept to Covington as part of their growth strategy in Kentucky,” Comey & Shepherd realtor Christopher Pfeiffer said in an August press release.

Pfeiffer says the project also represents continued growth and development in Covington’s urban core. The site is near other recent redevelopments, including North by Hotel Covington in the former YMCA building, new apartments where Landwehr Hardware once was and Blue North’s startup hub in the former Sims Furniture building.

Galaxie in Covington will be open from 11:30 a.m. to midnight Tuesdays through Thursdays and from 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
