Jim
Gilliece
and his wife Pati have owned the MainStrasse fixture Chez Nora (530 Main St., Covington; 859-491-8027) since 1994 when they bought the bar/restaurant from the legendary Nora Dempsey. So, yes, at one time there actually was a “Nora”! Previously,Gilliece
was a stand-up comic living in Manhattan, but upon reaching “a fork in the road,” he decided to move back to his native Covington to become a restaurateur. Jim is proud that over the years Chez Nora has transformed into a comfortable, homey spot where everyone is welcome.Music plays an important role in Gilliece’s life and it is reflected in Chez Nora’s offering of live Jazz (and occasionally other styles) five nights a week on the third floor. During this holiday season the restaurant and bar are busy with holiday parties and Jim and Pati are looking forward to New Year’s Eve when they will host another of their famous “Come As You Are” New Year’s Eve parties. There are no cover charges or package deals; the restaurant and bar will be open normal hours, but hats and
horns (and music by Annette Shepherd) will be provided to help welcome in the new year.CityBeat: What was the last great meal you ate and where did you eat it?
