If you’ve ever wanted to get your hands on a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle, Kroger’s now offering you the chance to buy one of these rare gems.

To celebrate the season, five Northern Kentucky Kroger Wine & Spirits Shops will host a Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon event at their stores on Saturday, Dec. 7. Ten bottles of Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon, mixed between 10-year, 12-year, 15-year and 20-year, will be available for sale at each location. Ten bottles of Buffalo Trace Antique Collection and a variety of other bottles of bourbon will also be available to buy.

As one online bourbon enthusiast put it, if you love bourbon, a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle is equivalent to a Golden Ticket to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. It’s considered one of the best bourbons in the world, with a cult following to back it up. The bourbon is rare and expensive, taking years and generations of knowledge and skill to distill. And unless you can get it at the MSRP, you’ll be shelling out thousands of dollars for a bottle.

For the chance to buy a bottle, you can start lining up outside one of these Krogers at 5 a.m. on Dec. 7:

  • Newport (130 Pavilion Parkway)
  • Ft. Mitchell (2150 Dixie Highway)
  • Union (9001 US-42)
  • Hebron (3105 N. Bend Road)
  • Independence (1700 Declaration Drive)

Just a heads up: Kroger says it’ll be strictly enforcing its “no lines before 5 a.m.” policy. Between 5 a.m. and 6:45 a.m., Kroger will distribute numbered wristbands at each location; you must have a numbered wristband for the chance to purchase.

Then at 7 a.m., each Kroger will draw 200 random numbers to purchase one allocated bottle per person. Customers must be present during the drawing and the line forming for the chance to purchase.
