One of Covington’s most popular coffee and tea joints is changing its name.
KungBrew Cafe, located in MainStrasse Village at 640 Main Street, has now become Fei House.
Owner Hana Chu announced the name change today in a social media post. The original name matched KungFood Chu’s AmerAsia, the Covington eatery she formerly co-operated with her ex-husband Johnny. She announced their divorce and the cafe’s impending rebrand in another post this past March.
“Admittedly I was a little directionless a few years ago. I knew that I liked tea, interior design, and that I thrived in the service industry, but I also didn’t know the long term goals I had for this place,” she wrote in a recent post. “And to be real, naming a business is the last thing I wanted to do when I was designing every inch of a commercial space, recipe testing, working with contractors, doing legal paperwork, and training staff.”
The post continues by acknowledging the original name “fit the marital family branding because I was scared to be by myself.”
“This really did work until it didn’t. The reality is that I’ve been making all of the tough decisions alone since practically the beginning,” she wrote. “I’m crazy excited and proud to share our new name, logos, and branding designed by my talented friend Linh … We all just want you to feel warm, whimsical, and welcome when you step through the door of Fei House. Making a profitable business may always be my primary goal, but this is definitely my secondary!”
While the name and logo for the cafe are different, the menu, the interior and the staff at Fei House are remaining entirely the same.
“Now that I’ve got a direction in mind, I am happy and excited to see where this leads us all and what other good changes will follow,” Chu’s post said.
