A new coffee shop in University Heights is asking for help after a smash-and-grab caused significant damage.
Husbands Adam Cameron and Channy Chhay opened Georgie’s Walk Up last month. The coffee and beverage bar, named after the couple’s puppy, came about after Adam’s battle with stage 4 lymphoma and months of chemotherapy.
“We needed to rebuild—not just our health, but our lives. So we poured our hearts into Georgie’s, working tirelessly for 9 months to bring it to life,” they wrote on their GoFundMe.
Adam went into remission in May, and the couple opened the coffee bar on Aug. 15. They say they were quickly embraced by the community, but on Sept. 12, the growing shop was broken into, with the suspect causing thousands of dollars in damage.
Adam says the suspect destroyed the shop’s custom-designed front door, broke the lock and stole essential items. The couple launched their GoFundMe following the robbery, hoping to raise $10,000 to restore the front door and security, replace lost inventory and stay open.
“The damage has halted our momentum and deeply impacted our sales during a time when we’re still finding our footing,” the couple shared. “We’ve come too far to give up now. Georgie’s is more than a coffee bar—it’s a testament to hope, healing, and the power of community. If you’ve ever believed in second chances, in small businesses, or in the strength of love, we ask you to stand with us.”
As of Wednesday morning, Georgie’s has raised almost $3,400 toward their goal. If you are interested in donating, you can do so here.
