After several months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic, Over-the-Rhine’s beloved cocktail bar Japp’s has reopened — but things are a little different than you may remember (and we aren’t upset about it).
Helmed by mixologist and owner Molly Wellmann, the bar has transformed into a socially distant “tropical oasis,” with palm trees meticulously placed throughout the establishment in order to encourage safe space between guests.
Japp’s, for the time being, is open by reservation only — which can be easily made on their website. They are offering table service (no bar seating) and have three 4-top tables, three 2-top tables, two 6- to 10-top tables and one 6- to 10-top table on the patio available.
Beverages are now ordered and paid for from the table by utilizing a QR code or visiting the Japp’s website. Drinks will then be delivered to the table on a silver tray.
For those who are continuing to stay safe at home, cocktails are also available to-go.
Wellmann explains the steps they’ve taken to ensure a safe experience for their guests at Japp’s in a Facebook post. In addition to offering no-touch payment and ordering, they’ve installed foot openers to avoid touching doors, will be sanitizing bathrooms and high-traffic areas and all employees will be wearing masks and will have their temps taken before shifts.
“I know this is a bit different, but our world is a bit different at this time,” Japp’s Facebook post reads. “I really appreciate your extra effort and patience. If you have any questions please feel free to message me. As always, everyone is welcome at Japp’s as long as you are kind and respectful of everyone else.”

Japp’s is located at 1134 Main St. in Over-the-Rhine and is now open 2-10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
