One popular Over-the-Rhine bar is closing its doors for the final time.

Highball, a vinyl-focused bar across from Findlay Market with light bites and many twists on Japanese highball drinks, announced on Instagram today that “the time has come to drop the needle one last time.”

“Unfortunately, Sunday May 24th will be our last day of service,” the post reads. “We would like to thank our staff, particularly our Manager Jamie Black for making this place every bit of special. Thank you to Model Group for the opportunity to bring our brand of magic to Findlay Market for the past 5 years.”

Highball was a project from Gorilla Cinema Presents, Jacob Trevino’s hospitality group that owns several other well-known establishments like the “Shining”-inspired bar Overlook Lodge and the downtown karaoke joint Tokyo Kitty.

“Saying goodbye and letting go is hard for everyone. But we want to thank every DJ, Musician, Burlesque Performer, Tarot Card Reader, Cosplayer, and Regular who became the true soundtrack for the space,” the post continued. “We hope you’ll stop in one last time, pick your favorite record, and raise a toast to the space where so many memories were made.”

Previously, Highball was home to Cosmic Gorilla, a comic book store with a Star Wars-themed bar tucked away in the back. Trevino closed the store in 2024. Gorilla Cinema has not yet announced if the bar will rebrand once again and transition to a different concept.
