Yee Mama, a food producer best known for its handcrafted dumplings and wontons, will soon open in a retail space at Findlay Market.
After five years of operating as a wholesale wonton business from Findlay Kitchen, a nonprofit small business incubator run by FIndlay Market, Yee Mama will move into a stall in the Market House formerly occupied by Sen by Kiki, which is expanding into a storefront at 106 Elder St. While an exact grand opening date isn’t yet known, Findlay Market says it will be sometime this summer.
Chiuyee (Dora) Cheng is the founder and owner of Yee Mama. The concept originated from her culinary memories from her homeland in Hong Kong. She and her small team have been operating from a 100-square-foot production pod at Findlay Kitchen since 2020 as the business prepares and folds hundreds of wontons daily for wholesale clients, as well as Monthly Wonton Club members.
Moving to a stall at Findlay Market provides Yee Mama with more production space and access to the market’s foot traffic, allowing Cheng to grow and scale her business beyond wholesale. Shoppers will also be able to watch the Yee Mama team craft wontons through a prep window.
“We’re truly excited to open our first shop at Findlay Market. After nearly five years as part of the Findlay Kitchen community, this feels like a natural and meaningful next step. It means a lot to be able to share the Cantonese flavors I grew up with in Hong Kong in a place that feels like home,” Cheng said in a press release.
Along with made-to-order dumplings, Yee Mama will also have a small grocery selection of Asian pantry staples, thoughtfully curated Asian-founded brand items and a rotating selection of grab-and-go meals.
Findlay Market says it will share Yee Mama’s grand opening date soon. Learn more about Yee Mama here.
