Graeter’s Ice Cream is again teaming up with Cincinnati-based charity The Cure Starts Now to raise funds via their Cones for the Cure promotion to fight pediatric cancer.
From now until Sept. 17, Graeter’s locations will be offering single scoop sugar cone coupons of their seasonal Elena’s Blueberry Pie ice cream to Sweet Rewards loyalty members via their app (joining is free), with the option to donate directly to The Cure Starts Now. Donations can also be made at conesforthecure.org.
The seasonal ice cream was named in honor of Elena Desserich, a Wyoming child who was diagnosed with pediatric cancer and passed away in 2007 and in whose memory The Cure Starts Now organization was founded. This year, Graeter’s is hoping to raise $250,000 – the largest Cones for the Cure goal yet.
“Our main goal every year is to help raise awareness for The Cure Starts Now with our Cones for the Cure effort and our signature Elena’s Blueberry Pie ice cream,” Chip Graeter, fourth-generation co-owner of Graeter’s said in a press release. “We’ve been committed to this cause ever since we first partnered with The Cure Starts Now back in 2009. We have a lofty goal this year and we hope everyone will stop by a scoop shop to learn about The Cure Starts Now Foundation, enjoy some delicious ice cream, and support these children and families.”
Each store will also share the stories of Cones for the Cure ambassadors, children who either currently have or very recently had pediatric brain cancers like DIPG/DMG and medulloblastoma.
“Working with Graeter’s Ice Cream and their entire staff is truly a blessing, and we’re honored this family brand continues to support The Cure Starts Now and our strategic efforts. We love that they honor specific ambassadors during the event and make a difference for all those families going through this battle,” Keith Desserich, co-founder and chairman of the board at The Cure Starts Now, said in the release.
Money raised from Cones for Cure goes directly toward research aimed at fighting pediatric cancers. Graeter’s teamed up with The Cure Starts Now in 2009 and has since raised over $1 million with the help of its supporters.
