Wonky Tonk will appear at 2019’s Sayler Park Sustains Photo: Jesse Fox

Founded in 2013, Sayler Park Sustains is a family-friendly music and education festival designed to bring people together in the name of environmental-friendly, self-sustained agricultural practices. Created as a way to show pride and care for the west side community and run by an all-volunteer staff of Sayler Park residents, the event annually features an array of workshops, fun for the kids, food trucks, craft beer, live music and more.

Centrally located in the neighborhood’s Nelson Sayler Memorial Park, this year’s SPS event includes workshops on

“backyard biodiversity,” DIY rain barrels, growing mushrooms, keeping chickens and composting. There will also be a workshop on “urban gardening” — growing your own food no matter where you live — hosted by Cincinnati Hip Hop and activism group Triiibe, who’ve made teaching the practice a big part of their non-musical advocacy.

Triiibe is also a part of the diverse (mostly) local music lineup at 2019’s SPS. Music begins when the gates open at noon with the Bluegrass-flavored Part-Time Gentlemen.

Here’s the full music schedule:

12 p.m. The Part-Time Gentlemen

1:05 p.m. Wonky Tonk

2:10 p.m. Harlot and the Hounds

3:15 p.m. Chelsea Ford and the Trouble

4:20 p.m. Dylan Walshe (Nashville by way of Ireland)

5:25 p.m. Tweens

6:25 p.m. Urban Pioneers (Texas)

7:25 p.m. The Tillers (longtime supporters of SPS)

8:40 p.m. Triiibe

There will also be a lot of entertainment for children, including face painting, a music jam session with the Tillers’ Sean Geil and his son Auggie, a puppet show and more. Food trucks and craft beer offerings will also be on-site.

The event is free and runs Saturday until 10 p.m.
