Last week we told you about a Cincinnati music holiday tradition returning soon, as Over the Rhine wraps up a string of Christmastime shows across the country with their annual hometown Christmas gigs, set for Memorial Hall this coming weekend (Dec. 21-23).
Another local music holiday tradition — this one headed up by Cincinnati Jazz piano veteran Steve Schmidt — is also upon us. Taking place every year at The Comet (4579 Hamilton Ave., Northside, cometbar.com), the “Christmas Schmidtacular “ is three nights’ (this year running Wednesday, Dec. 19-Friday, Dec. 21) worth of holiday Jazz performed by The Steve Schmidt Organ Trio and a bevy of special guest vocalists.
Schmidt (on Hammond organ), guitarist Brad Myers and drummer Marc Wolfley will be joined Wednesday and Thursday by singer Adia Dobbins and Cincinnati native Amy London will be home from New York City and singing with the trio at the Friday show. A few other surprise guests might find their way to the stage over the course of the residency as well.
Music begins at 8:30 p.m. each night and there is no admission charge.
