Phenomenal Cincinnati Post Punk duo Lung rocks out at Urban Artifact Saturday in honor of the release of their sophomore album, All the King’s Horses.

The show is a unique dual “release party” event Saturday brings together homegrown music and creative, music-inspired cocktails; Cincinnati musicians and mixologists MayaLou Banatwala and Kristen Kreft are releasing their collaborative book project, Rocktails: An Amped Up Spin on Mixology, kicking off Saturday’s event with a “cocktail hour meet and greet” and book signing at 8:30 p.m. (read more about the book here). Great local group Carriers and Madison, Wisc.’s Proud Parents also perform Saturday.

On Friday, All the King’s Horses is being issued via Sofa Burn Records, marking the band’s first release for the label and the follow-up to last year’s Bottom of the Barrel. The album’s first two singles — “Butcher” (which was accompanied by a music video featuring a host of the musicians’ local music peers) and “Spiders” (listen to both below)— are great representations of the band’s powerful sound. Atop drummer Daisy Kaplan’s cyclonic and atmospheric percussion backdrop, singer/cellist Kate Wakefield evokes a whirl of energy and emotion, creating varying textures on her cello, which often rocks harder than an army of distorted guitars. Wakefield’s dynamic vocals are equally multidimensional, alternately rising with a hair-raising fervor and slinking with a more delicate but no less intent and intense purr.

Late last month, Lung released a live performance video for “Spiders,” recorded at local musician/engineer Mike Montgomery’s Candyland studios in Northern Kentucky. The clip was filmed by Patrick Hague.

If you’re a fan already or intrigued by what you’ve heard, be sure to see Lung Saturday — Caplan and Wakefield tour incessantly, so while they are generous with their time when they are home, with the new album coming out, it probably won’t be long before their next extended road trip begins (they just returned from about a four-month cross-country tour, much of which they’ve chronicled in entertaining tour-diary entries).
