With the COVID-19 pandemic having halted almost every concert, sporting event and festival, it’s been quite an adjustment period for those of us who enjoy people-packed events.

For the ones itching to return to live music, there’s a light on the horizon of the Ohio River. The Wooks are coming to Riverfront Live at 7 p.m. on Jan. 29.

Due to social distancing, it will look a little different than your average pre-2020 concert. Riverfront Live, which is an indoor-outdoor concert venue located at 4343 Kellogg Ave., is selling tickets in groups of four, six, eight and 10. Prices range from $15 to $20.

To comply with social distancing guidelines and make sure everyone is seated with people they know, purchasers are required to buy all tickets available for their chosen table. Masks are required, and unless you are using the restroom or waiting for bar service, all concert-goers must remain at their seats.

The Wooks are a band from just across the river in Kentucky, striving to produce boot-stomping, sing-along music with heavy nods to traditional Bluegrass and mountain music. The band came together in 2014 and have since graced the stages of many festivals, including Bonnaroo, produced two studio albums and amassed a hefty following of devoted fans.

The Wooks closet of instruments doesn’t mirror your average collection of guitar, bass and a drum set. Rather, they pack their tour bus with a mandolin, banjo and dobro, a wood-bodied resonator that resembles a guitar but produces a less electric sound.

Along with a mask or two, be sure to pack your coziest hat and gloves; you don’t want to be thinking about your chilly fingers while trying to immerse yourself in the mountains and creeks of Kentucky’s modern Bluegrass scene.
