HOT: Funeral Songs

A U.K. chain of funeral homes called Co-op Funeralcare recently released the results of its latest poll to find the most popular songs played at funerals (in the U.K.) and, for the first time, not a single traditional hymn placed in the Top 10. Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” again landed at the top of the chart, followed by songs by Bette Midler, Robbie Williams, Nat King Cole and Eva Cassidy. Ed Sheeran’s song for his late grandmother, “Supermarket Flowers,” made its Top 10 debut, coming in at No. 6. Beyond the Top 10, popular Rock songs played at funerals included Meat Loaf’s “Bat Out of Hell” and Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.” Monty Python’s “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” — which unseated Sinatra in the top spot in 2014 — now sits at No. 10.

WARM: Wu-Tang Gets on the Map

It certainly must be a great honor to have a street name after you, something many beloved celebrities have experienced. But the Wu-Tang Clan recently had an entire chunk of a neighborhood renamed in their honor. The Hip Hop group has long been loud and proud about their Staten Island roots and now the streets of the Park Hill section of the New York borough are collectively known as the Wu-Tang Clan District. Several fans turned out to mark the christening, with local Councilwoman Debi Rose honoring the group by saying they “put Staten on the map internationally.”

COLD: Chance Revives Nuggets

Is there anything Chance the Rapper can’t do? The Kit Kat and Doritos spokesperson recently engaged with another brand on social media — Wendy’s — and now it appears he has altered the fast food chain’s menu. Or maybe it was just part of a paid endorsement. Chance tweeted a wish that Wendy’s bring back their spicy chicken nuggets, which were discontinued in 2017. Not one to miss out on a big promo opportunity, the burger chain replied saying they’d do it if their retweet got more than two million likes (which, of course, it did in less than two days). Chance also rode the hype, announcing on Twitter that his new album would be out in “less than two months,” adding the hashtag “#spicychickennuggets,” which we really hope isn’t the title.
