In addition to all the residencies, festivals and everything else the city is lucky enough to host regularly, October is filled with Halloween parties, costume contests and one-off cover bands to help celebrate the season. It’s also nearly perfect outside and one of your last chances to catch outdoor shows like the ones at Fountain Square, Northside’s Hoffner Park or the block party at Findlay Market for BLINK this month. Here are just a few concerts from local artists you should check out this month.

Quotah Residency at The Comet The Comet will feature spacey, synth-driven alt-pop project Quotah on Tuesday nights all month long. The residency features some of Cincinnati’s finest, with Hello Sapien on Oct. 8, Fran (Chicago) on Oct. 15, Leggy on Oct. 22 and Brad Gibson (Saturn Batteries) on Oct. 29. Tuesdays in October. Free. Static Falls Residency at MOTR Pub Static Falls take over MOTR Pub on every Wednesday this month with their brightly colored, progressive-leaning alt-pop, bringing along local bands like Perfect Stranglers on Oct. 9, Darlene on Oct. 16 and Disaster Class on Oct. 30. The band will have the privilege of opening for influential guitar player and music legend Richard Lloyd of Television on Oct. 23, which will, understandably, have a cover charge. 9 p.m. Wednesdays in October. Pete Fosco, Night Owl and Universal Light (Virginia) at Northside Tavern Universal Light, a group of experimental musicians from several other projects who formed the trio featuring cello, guitar and fiddle on tour from Virginia appear with local improvisational soundscape artist Pete Fosco and experimental, Americana-informed guitar player Night Owl (pictured). 8 p.m. Oct. 9. Rocktoberfest at Bellevue Pavilion Rocktoberfest features two days of music on three stages to raise money to restore the historic Bellevue Pavilion. Sungaze, Billy Fortune and Prairie Scout (Bloomington) at MOTR Pub Sungaze (pictured) just released a new self-titled album filled with the band’s dramatic and soaring dream pop at the end of August. The band will support Bloomington, Indiana, alt-folk act Prairie Scout, along with local infectious and melodic lo-fi folk songsmith Billy Fortune. Monster Bash at Northside Tavern For the event’s 10th anniversary, organizer Adam Stone has put together another knockout, humdinger of a Halloween party filled with one-off cover bands featuring local supergroups performing the music of Neil Young, Can, Metallica, Janis Joplin, The Beastie Boys and a ton more over three nights of Halloween-themed good times in the back room of Northside Tavern.
