The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band is making a stop at Shake It Records on Saturday to celebrate the release of their newest album, Honeysuckle.

The free event is part of a nationwide in-store tour, allowing fans to meet the band and get a copy of their record signed.

Reverend Peyton is regarded as “the premier finger picker playing today,” according to a press release. The band cites blues culture in Mississippi as their primary source for inspiration, with the Reverend’s wife Breezy Peyton on washboard and drum player Jacob “The Snakob” Powell keeping the two in rhythm.

Reverend Peyton is no stranger to the music culture down in the South, as he and his band (originally hailing from Brown County, Indiana) have taken several “music pilgrimages” to Mississippi to study under blues masters T-Model Ford, Robert Belfour and David “Honeyboy” Edwards.

Honeysuckle is co-produced by six-time Grammy winner Vance Powell, who has worked with several other notable musicians such as Chris Stapleton and Jack White.

The album also includes several special guests, including gospel group The McCrary Sisters, Grammy-nominated harmonica player Billy Branch, IBMA’s 10-time Fiddle Player of the Year Michael Cleveland, and banjo player Colton Crawford of the band The Dead South.

The Mississippi blues influence doesn’t stop with the music. The photograph on the cover of Honeysuckle was taken by Bill Steber, who has documented blues culture and musicians in the South for over three decades. Steber uses traditional wet plate photography to capture Reverend Peyton and his guitar in a wooded forest, giving the album an authentic cover.

The free event starts at 6 p.m. at Shake It Records. For more information, visit bigdamnband.com.
