Not to be confused with the Northside Festival in Brooklyn or the NorthSide Festival in Denmark, Cincinnati’s Northside Music Festival is named for the neighborhood and venue hosting it. Taking place tomorrow (Saturday) at the Northside Tavern, the event (presented by the Tavern and local design house We Have Become Vikings) features some top-shelf local music and a couple of touring acts on three stages — one on the back-room main stage, and the others on the outdoor patio and in the venue’s front room.
With over seven hours of music and 15 performers, you can attend the Northside Music Festival this weekend for the low, low price of zero dollars, so you can buy some band merch and have an extra beer or cocktail! The music begins at 6 p.m.
Among the Cincinnati bands playing NSMF is Us, Today, which recently released the excellent album Computant. The unique Post Rock trio was just featured on NPR’s All Things Considered; Wall Street Journal writer Jim Fusilli reviewed the new album for the broadcast.

A variety of styles of Indie Rock and Pop (incorporating everything from Punk to Soul to Folk) can be found within the NSMF lineup, crafted by local performers like Darlene, Stallone ’N Roses, Static Falls, The Tongue and Lips, Marr, Freedom Nicole Moore & the Electric Moon and Marjorie Lee and The Lovers, plus more experimental local acts Silent Tongues and Blood Cassette.
The show also includes sets from two of the top local acts in their respective fields — Americana singer/songwriter Arlo McKinley and Hip Hop duo Sons of Silverton. Ever-exciting and thought-provoking Hip Hop/Soul troupe Triiibe (which debuted its new single “Gossip” today; click here to check out the music video) rounds out the local lineup.
The two non-local acts appearing at the Northside Music Festival are psychedelic Rock/Folk trio Water Witches (from Athens, Ohio) and The Kraken Quartet, an Austin, Texas band that “(merges) elements of math rock, minimalism, indie, post-rock, electronica, and the avant-garde.”
