Will Kimbrough is one of those multi-talented artists that nearly anyone could build a band around, a diverse musician who has devoted his life to his craft since an early age.
Over the years, Kimbrough, who performs at the Southgate House with the impressive Bridget DeMeyer on Saturday, has been hired to fortify bands for Rodney Crowell, Rosanne Cash, Billy Joe Shaver, Guy Clark, Steve Earle Jimmy Buffet, Emmylou Harris and many more. Kimbrough has also produced albums, including a Grammy-nominated recording by Adrienne Young and projects by Todd Snider and others.
In 2004, Kimbrough rightfully claimed the Americana Music Association’s Instrumentalist of the Year award. He has also written songs recorded by Buffet, Snider and Little Feat. In other words, you get the picture; Kimbrough is one of the more well-rounded stylists on the scene.
Recently, Kimbrough joined forces with a group of other established musicians back in his native Alabama and recorded an album called Willie Sugarcapps.
Made up of Kimbrough, Grayson Capps, Corky Hughes and the duo known as Sugarcane Jane, featuring Anthony Crawford and Savana Lee, the album sparked a following and led many critics to put the recording on their ‘Best of 2013’ lists.
Kimbrough latest solo album is a collection of earthy grooves called Sideshow Love.
WILL KIMBROUGH and BRIGITTE DEMEYER play Southgate House Revival at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 12. Tickets/more info here .
