Address: 1757-61 Sycamore St., Over-the-Rhine
Owner: Lee Ann Coulter
Value: $12,400 (combined)
Year Built: 1875
Comments: This property is an example of blightus averageus in Over-the-Rhine and Mt. Auburn. Like many buildings in need of rehab, it’s visible, it’s near a building that has already been rehabbed and it’s near an overgrown lot.
Coulter also owns the next-door lot at 1757 Sycamore. She bought the building and vacant lot together in December 1996 for $39,000, according to the Hamilton County Auditor’s Office. An attempt to reach Coulter by phone was unsuccessful.
Weeds at 1757 Sycamore are approaching the second story of 1761, which is generally boarded up, but does have a couple of open windows on the second story. The Cincinnati Department of Buildings and Inspections has no records of citations for this address, according to Inspections Supervisor Dave Edwards, but the department doesn’t track the maintenance of vacant lots. That’s the job of the Cincinnati Health Department, Edwards said. The health department did not return a call seeking comment.
BLIGHT OF THE WEEK is an effort to highlight the problem of abandoned buildings — and who’s responsible for them.
