In the past few years since galleries on and near Main Street closed (YES Gallery, CS13) and/or left the area for cheaper pastures (a la MG/GM who moved to Brighton) there has been a bit of a lull during Final Fridays on Main. But with new design studios like RBds Gallery moving into the neighborhood, it can only help the monthly event pick up the critical mass needed to continue to make the area a thriving arts community.
Owned by former architect and full-time designer/painter Richard Butz, RBds Gallery officially opened in late March and will exhibit the work of Cincinnati-based artist Jonpaul Smith this coming Final Friday. Using his background as a printmaker, Smith repurposes commercial packaging into woven patterns of color and texture, therein crafting a three-dimensional object out of two-dimensional imagery. Exhibition runs through August 10.
