C. Matthew Hamby’s unabashedly lurid cartoons and illustrations have graced many local publications, including CityBeat. His followers now have a chance at a more intimate, engaging experience of his work in the exhibition Framed Freaks at Nvision in Northside. The characters displayed here are overstated and charged, suggesting that, along with his stated influences such as Charles Bragg and Edward Hopper, the grotesques of William Faulkner might also be suitable precedent.
The exhibition runs through April 26. Hours for the gallery/store are 2-9 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday. Nvision is located at 4577 Hamilton Ave. 513-542-4577.
