With the rise of digital photography, photographers searched for ways in which to digitally capture imagery that retained the look and feel of retro photography — things like the cheap but technically obsolete analog Lomography and Polaroid Instant cameras. The Hipstamatic iPhone application (developed in 2009) is just one of many successful apps for smartphones, which allow the user to shoot photographs via a number of software filters and thus make the images appear to be taken from vintage film cameras. Hipstamatic Ohio, a FotoFocus exhibition, features the work of photographers Tad Barney, Tim Creamer, Jeff Harber, Brad Smith and Suzanne Fleming-Smith, who have embraced this new, accessible technology.
Opening reception: 5:30-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26. On view by appointment through Nov. 7. photosmith, 39 E. Court St., Downtown, fotofocusbiennial.org.
