Katie Parker and her collaborator Guy Michael Davis are increasingly ubiquitous in Cincinnati’s art scene, with recent projects shown at Country Club and the store High Street and subtle installations at Memorial Hall during the MusicNow festival. Their latest projects — the results of Parker’s Cincinnati Individual Artist Grant — will be exhibited in a new show opening Friday at Prairie in Northside. Their sculptural works distort traditional notions of porcelain figurines by hybridizing animals or skewing the narratives at work among the objects. Along with porcelain works, expect projects that involve lights and cut paper work. The paper elements usually evoke silhouettes of flowers and culminate into feelings of chintz wallpaper gone awry. Always highly crafted, the duo’s work draws viewers in with attractive design and historical references, only to surprise with dark humor and unexpected plot twists.
Opening reception 6-9 p.m. Exhibition continues through July 30. Get gallery details and find nearby bars and restaurants here.
