Ryan Snow’s six new minimalist paintings at the Frank Duveneck Arts & Cultural Center reward close looking by patient viewers. Snow holds a B.F.A. in painting and works as a designer, so it’s not a surprise that his subtle paintings incorporate the element of graphic design. Typography bleeds through here and there, the result of paint layered on top of collaged newspaper. The paint’s moisture activates the ink, supplying most of the color in each piece. Delicate graphite lines balance each composition and offer discoveries of the human touch behind a slick surface of resin. Paint seems to drip in random streaks, but is actually under the skillful control of the artist. Snow’s quiet, meditative monochromes provide some respite from the glitz and rush of the holiday season. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday; 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Through Jan. 30.
