A stroll through the Krohn Conservatory’s steamy indoor rainforest (aka the Palm House) or the arid Desert House is an exhilarating escape from the icy grip of winter. The Tropical House is also therapeutic. The significance of sweating in a T-shirt during the month of January cannot be overstated. Two different guided tours are offered to provide context along with the Krohn’s sensual delights: Free iPod tours are available anytime and visitors can borrow iPods if they don’t have their own (you must leave a credit card). Free tours guided by volunteers are available every day Jan. 30-March 7 for the Plants of the Americas show. Or, you can hire a tour guide any time for $25 for 1-20 people. General admission is by donation. Open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.
