Cincinnati Children’s Hospital was named the No. 2 Best Children’s Hospital by an annual ranking released this morning from U.S. News & World Report. The criteria which goes into the ranking system is based off of 10 specialties that the hospital provides, such as pediatric cancer, pediatric neurology and neurosurgery and pediatric orthopedics.
Cincinnati Children’s ranked within the Top 10 of each specialty, with a No.1 ranking in both pediatric cancer and pediatric gastroenterology and GI surgery. The hospital rose to No. 2 for the first time after seven years at No. 3. Cincinnati fell behind Boston Children’s Hospital, which ranked No.1 in three specialty categories.
Dr. Steve Davis, chief operating officer of Cincinnati Children’s, explained their success in a news release this morning, saying, “This move ahead in the rankings reflects the passion and dedication of our employees who work tirelessly every day to improve the health of patients and families who come to us for care. We’ve reached number two in the nation because we put kids first.”
According to U.S. News, surveys are sent out to 200 hospitals and about 11,000 doctors who specialize in pediatric care.The data is both administered and analyzed by North Carolina-based RTI International, a consulting and research firm.
